Your masks are amazing!!! I’m wondering, though, do you have any suggestions for pulling details from a mask into a full body costume without making it all look too ‘clunky’ or ‘busy’?

Ooooooh, this is a really good question.
I myself struggle HARD with this, so I’ll be as brief as possible.
For starters, I follow some costume makers of varying genres:

Apocalyptic Clothing: Nuclear Snail Studio

Fantasy/steampunk Armor: David G.

I also do my research via pinterest for the various looks, and break them down, layer by layer.

I am NOT good with costumes. My abilities and designs are EXTREMELY basic, and stop at a shirt, a bottom (pants or a skirt with leggings), shoes, and a single accessory.
Proof:

I am a basic bitch costumer.
I feel like with my makeup piece, I was getting better at my costume designs. I learned I did not like it when a shirt/pant/skirt ended with a straight horizontal line across the body. It would shorten the character, and deaden their look.
So, another point of advice is to get rid of anything that cuts you in half. Either way. You want diagonals, or rounds that give way to another layer.
If you are interested, I have a tutorial going up on Patreon as to how I did the layers!

Otherwise, research! Draw your layers! Do concept art!
