I assume everyone resident in the US, and most people who are not, and many people who are not American citizens and have no interest whatsoever in American politics, have already seen numerous recommendations that you vote. I would like to provide more specific information, but there are so many states with individual laws and regulations, and no federal election governing body, that I really can’t.
However, I have just put my absentee ballot in the mail, and if you would prefer to vote by mail, or to vote at home (where you can easily access information on individual candidates) and then turn in your ballot in person at the elections office, it may not be too late for you to do so. Google “[your state] absentee voting” and see what local laws are. In particular, 20 states, including mine, require a reason why you need to vote by mail.
On the other hand, if you are in Washington, Oregon, or Colorado, you should already have received your mail-in ballot. If you have not, google “[your county] elections office” and contact them NOW to ask for one.
And if you already have an absentee ballot, today is a perfect time to fill it out.
Read the instructions carefully!
My county registrar recently said in an interview that the number one reason for absentee (mail in) ballots being disqualified in my state is people forgetting to sign the exterior of the envelope over the sealed flap.
yes that’s right – our regs require a physical signature over the sealed flap on the outside of the envelope
if you forget that and still mail the ballot – it doesn’t get counted
