A recently completed sculpture for an esteemed longtime
patron of mine ~

TITLE: “The Endling”
DIMENSIONS: 19" tall x 27" long (approximately the
size of a fox)

As has been the case throughout my 25-year career of
creating art with animal remains, no animals are killed for the purpose of making
my sculptures. Natural deaths and roadkill are among my mainstays. Out of respect for
Mother Nature, I recycle as many parts of the animal as possible. Please visit my

This piece is an hommage to cryptid fauna, to endangered
species that are functionally extinct, and to all of the endlings that will die
out and fade away within my lifetime. I drew upon the physical characteristics
of the South American maned wolf, Tasmanian tiger, stilted wading birds, then
incorporated a serpentine tail derived from the creatures of Greek mythology
that captivated me as a child. I tied together the flowing loops of the tail
and the colors of the piece with a pair of coiled frilled antennae inspired by
my favorite species of moths. Much of my art makes sociopolitical and
environmental statements. Other pieces, such as this one, tell a personal story
as well. This piece is⁣ also an endling for me professionally. I will not be creating
any more composite hybrid animals for my gallery shows. I might accept a few
more commissions for hybrid animals before I close this chapter of my career,
however my work for public exhibitions will focus on other strains of my work
from here forward. To collectors reading this: If you have been considering
adding one of my hybrids to your menagerie, I recommend doing it now because
the window will be closing shortly. ⁣
